London 2012 - The Journey Begins

Well, it has started. Steve and Ian have both now been to the Gamesmaker selection events held at Warwick University. This was a event designed to see if we were suitable for the areas we have been chosen to work in.

Steve has been selected to work in one of the most sought after volunteer roles, the Anti Doping Team. His work will involve:

- notifiying athletes of their selection for doping control as they leave the competition area and making sure they know their rights and responsibilities;
- making sure the athlete remains under continuous observation from the time they are notified to when they report to the Doping Control Station; and

- understanding the rules and regulations of the sport, especially those involving the competition area and knowing the athletes’ movements around the venue.

Anti doping is always in the spotlight at the Olympics and Steve will be kept busy to ensure that a doping free Olympics and Paralympics games takes place.

Ian has been selected to work as a Team Leader in one of the largest volunteers areas, the Events Services whose responsibility is to ensure safe, secure environments for all who attend the Games. His duties will include:

- providing leadership and support to Event Services team members;
- making sure team members are in the right positions; and
- helping team members give excellent customer service to spectators and other visitors.

We do not know exactly what the future holds for us yet or exactly what our roles will be and indeed where we will be posted.

Please watch this space for updates!
